A Magical Winter Migration
Carpinteria is one of the fortunate and rare stops along the California coast where Western Monarch butterflies migrate to spend the winter. Seeking refuge from the freezing northern climates, these delicate creatures fly thousands of miles to cluster in the protective microclimates of local eucalyptus and pine groves near the ocean.
