Where to Stay for the Avocado Festival — Book Early
Hotels in Carpinteria book out 4–6 weeks in advance for Avocado Festival weekend. This is the single busiest hotel weekend of the year in town. If you're planning to attend, especially on Saturday, staying overnight in Carpinteria is strongly recommended — parking becomes limited and Highway 101 backs up on Sunday afternoon.
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Carpinteria and Best Western Plus Carpinteria Inn are the closest full-service hotels to Linden Avenue. Budget options like Motel 6 also fill quickly. For groups or families, vacation rentals in the Sandyland neighborhood book out months in advance for this weekend.
Getting to the Festival
Linden Avenue closes to traffic for the festival. The best approach:
Drive and park early
Free street parking is available in residential neighborhoods east and west of downtown. Arrive before 10am Saturday for the easiest parking.
Take Amtrak
The Pacific Surfliner stops at Carpinteria Station on Linden Avenue — literally steps from the festival entrance. Trains run from Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara. This is the locals' secret for a stress-free festival day.
Stay in town
If you're staying at a Carpinteria hotel, you can walk to the festival from anywhere downtown.
Tips for First-Time Festival Visitors
- Go Friday afternoon if you can — smaller crowds, same great music and food
- Bring cash — many food vendors are cash only or prefer it
- The guacamole vendors on the east end of Linden tend to have shorter lines
- Avocado margaritas are non-negotiable
- Wear layers — October evenings in Carpinteria get cool fast
- The Arts Center Bazaar on the side streets is less crowded and has the best handmade goods
